Cities, towns and villages are all forms of municipalities and obtain power from the state. Depending on the location, regional traditions, population, type of governmental structure, and the number of services that are offered to its residents is what determines the difference between a city, village, or town.

Why should you make a comment?
Public comments are an opportunity for community members to express their concerns to elected officials in public statements. The public is entitled to this opportunity, with reasonable limitations from the board or council, under the Illinois Open Meetings Act. Public comments may be utilized to provide feedback or perspective to agencies to strengthen the decision-making process. Agendas for public meetings are released prior to the meeting and may be viewed by the public to prepare for public comments.

LOCAL AGENCIES
Local Agencies operate at the local or regional level, or any other political subdivision in the State that operates at the local or regional level. This includes: Lake County Government, School District, Libraries, Park Districts and Townships.
The county is the largest government agency at a local level and serves cities, towns and villages. County boards approve ordinances, budgets and all financial matters. The Lake County Board consists of 19 members, each assigned to one of 19 geographic districts.
Village of Round Lake Park county districts are 2nd, 6th and 16th.​

County board meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month at 9am. The public may view a livestream of the meeting on the 10th floor of 18 N County St, Waukegan, IL 60085 (face coverings required). Online attendance is available on Zoom. Public comments may be submitted through one of four ways.

Call - Submit your public comment by calling the County Board Office at (847) 377-2300. Calls must be made by 3pm the day before the meeting.

Email - Submit your public comment by emailing PublicComment@lakecountyil.gov. The subject line must be “Lake County Board Meeting.” Include your name, who you’re representing (self or organization) and the topic of your comment. Emails must be sent by 3pm the day before the meeting.

In Person - A livestream of the meeting is played for the public on the 10th floor of 18 N County St, Waukegan, IL 60085. Public in attendance may provide public comment.

Virtually - Attend the board meeting virtually and read your public comment aloud by registering to attend at lakecounty.legistar.com.
